The Fat Transfer Technique

Compared to synthetic fillers, fat transfer, also known as fat injection, is more long lasting and safe, as there is no risk of an adverse reaction to a foreign substance.

In October, Dr. Anigian attended the American Society of Plastic Surgery annual meeting in Boston.  The conference provides a venue for plastic surgeons from all over the world to discuss ideas and trends as well as to learn about innovations in the field. This year, Dr. Anigian placed a personal emphasis on the use of fat in various procedures. He wanted to learn more about how other doctors were using and advancing the technique in comparison to his own practice.

To his surprise, Dr. Anigian found that much of the discussion over innovations with fat transfer related to procedures he had been using in Dallas for years. Dr. Anigian has long understood how to employ fat as a natural filler in areas prone to losing volume like the face or hands. Compared to synthetic fillers, fat transfer, also known as fat injection, is more long lasting and safe, as there is no risk of an adverse reaction to a foreign substance.

In a fat transfer procedure, fat is removed from an area with excess fat, such as the thigh and placed in an area suffering from lack of volume. Common treatment areas include the face, breasts, hands and buttocks.

In his practice, Dr. Anigian has long been expertly employing the fat transfer technique to improve skin quality, thickness and elasticity. He uses fat transfers to improve the shape of the face by adding volume to the brow, cheeks or mouth, as needed. Dr. Anigian can even use fat transfer for breast augmentation, providing a completely natural and long lasting filler.

Dr. Anigian, having used this technique for over fifteen years, is an expert in the field, not only in Dallas, but also across the country. Fat transfer offers a completely safe, natural and permanent way to enhance the body’s contour.
